The Chipping Surgery

A major doctors surgery in Wotton-under-Edge, the Chipping Surgery has undergone extensive refurbishment to update the facilities. A second phase of works has incorporated a new two storey extension which will give the surgery much needed increased space. All this work has been carried out whilst the surgery remains live and also under the exceptional pressure caused to the health service by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Undertaking the refurbishment in eight separate phases, the Chappell & Dix team have worked closely with the practice management to minimise disruption to the surgery operation whilst maintaining the health and safety of all patients and staff at all times.

Several areas of the surgery have been reconfigured and structural works undertaken. On completion, the building will be totally rewired, all mechanical services updated, redecorated, with new floor coverings throughout. Externally all windows and doors have been replaced and fascias and soffits renewed.  A bespoke reception desk has been manufactured and installed by the company’s joinery workshop.

A brand new extension, carried out in conjunction with the refurbishment, blends in with the existing building with the use of the same wall and roofing materials. Restricted access and lack of external space has meant the need for advanced planning and control to prevent issues with local residents.

The extension will provide a further number of consulting rooms, offices and a multifunction room. The two floors are serviced with a new lift installation to give greater accessibility to staff and patients.
